Engagement settings

To finetune what you consider to be an engaged visitor, use these settings. To manage a site's engagement settings, go to Manage site > Settings > Engagement.

Key concepts

During a session, the level of engagement contributes towards the 'engagement level'.

  • Bounced engagement level is where the visitor left very quickly after only viewing one page.
  • Normal level is set for visitors that don't bounce, but don't engage with the site enough either.
  • Engaged level is set where the visitor stays for a minimum length of time or views a minimum number of pages. These are generally people interested in the site.
  • Converted level is set where the session receives a conversion event through either the Hitprobe tag or the API.

You can control what sessions are considered to be bounced or engaged through these settings.

Bounced

Set the number of seconds under which you consider a session to have bounced. If a session has a duration shorter than this and only 1 page view, the engagement level will remain at bounced.

Engaged

Choose the minimum duration, and the minimum number of page views, that will be considered to be engaged. Any sessions with a duration longer than this, or with this number of page views or greater, will go to the engaged level.
